Earlier this week the Prime Minister addressed the nation setting out a series of further measures to help minimise the spread of COVID-19.
He stated that the country would not be returning to a full lockdown like in March.
Further restrictions
We know that additional restrictions have been placed on the hospitality sectors, including restaurants. Now persons in restaurants and hospitality venues which are not sat down to eat or drink must wear a face covering. Staff in the hospitality sectors and in retail must now wear coverings. In licensed premises, food must be ordered and served at a table.
In his address, the Prime Minister also announced greater enforcement powers and penalties in order to improve the levels of compliance.
The limits for weddings has now been revised down to 15 persons, however for funerals up to 30 people can still attend.
British Marine can advise its members that the rule of six remains in force in England. Certain businesses must download the official NHS QR code and display posters showing this so that customers can ‘check in’ at different premises. More information on collecting customer details and your responsibilities can be found here.
Businesses are also required to remind their staff about the new requirements and take action to ensure the rule of six is followed. Crucially, people should now work from home wherever possible.
Similar measures have also been announced in the Devolved Administrations.
Scotland
In Scotland there is a ban on two different households meeting inside home settings, however up to six people from two households can meet outdoors or in hospitality venues. The First Minister also announced reduced trading hours for pubs and restaurants. The advice, like that in England, is to work from home wherever possible.
Wales
The First Minister also announced reduced trading hours for cafes, pubs and restaurants in Wales.
Northern Ireland
People living in Northern Ireland can no longer meet anyone outside their immediate household inside their home.
British Marine would advise its members to familiarise themselves with the changes and to visit our microsite for more information. Further information on what you can and can’t do in England can be found here.
