British Marine’s Public Affairs, Policy & Research team has published a range of easy-to-use economic impact calculators for British Marine members to download and use to quantify their business’s economic output.
Two economic impact calculators have been developed to assist members in determining their business’s economic value to the local economy. One has been designed to be used specifically by boating tourism businesses to estimate the unique economic output that these businesses generate and the other has been tailored to non-tourism businesses.*
These calculators can be downloaded in Excel format.
British Marine have published this easy-to-use economic impact calculator for all member businesses engaged in a boating tourism activity in the UK.* For all other businesses, British Marine has created an economic impact calculator that is tailored to non-tourism business activity. To access and download this calculator, please search: https://www.britishmarine.co.uk/Resources/Publications
Members can use this calculator to estimate their business’s approximate economic output and use these figures to promote their business’s value to the local economy or reference their value when negotiating with local authorities.

*Boating tourism businesses include any of the following: marina or moorings facilities; boat or watersports craft tuition providers; boat or watersports craft hire or charter operators; boat or watersports craft passenger tour operators; hotel boat operators; and peer-to-peer boat operators.
By inputting information on your business, these calculators will help to quantify the total employment supported locally by both your direct sales and expenditures with suppliers, as well as the direct and indirect Gross Value Added (or contribution to GDP) that your business has generated through this activity. This information can then be used to promote your business’s economic footprint, and value, to the local economy, either as a promotional tool or to use in discussions with local and national authorities and other industry stakeholders.
