British Marine's position is that we must support and encourage the swift global transition to Net 0, during this transition we must ensure that our industry can adapt to the changes whilst maintaining strong successful businesses.
What is the British Marine role in the marine industries transition to net zero emissions?
We see our role as to helping the development of the foundations needed for the industry to successfully transition, but what does this mean?
- we will work with government to ensure enabling legislation is brought forward to support and to ensure a fair transition for the Marine Industry,
- we will support government objectives by communicating relevant information to the industry, for example on regulatory consultations, forthcoming changes, and key timelines,
- we will support the marine industries in their transition through the creation of a marine technology decarbonisation knowledge centre, which will include relevant industry research projects, case studies, reports, and opportunities for technology sharing and cross sector technology transfer,
- where there are gaps in provision or knowledge, we will continue to support the standardisation of new technologies to support decarbonisation and promote swifter technology uptake, and work with our industry partners to ensure we have the relevant data to help businesses make the right decisions,
- we will support businesses development of new technologies and solutions through identification and application support of relevant funding.

British Marine is a proud supporter of the Global Goals, specifically Goals 8, 9, 13 and 14.
SME Climate Commitment
The SME Climate Hub is a non-profit global initiative that empowers small to medium-sized companies to take climate action and build resilient businesses. We would like to encourage all our Micro, Small and Medium sized business members to commit to an achievable Net 0 objective with declared milestones and to identify a suitable change plan in order to sign up to the SME Climate Commitment.
We know that there are many companies in our sector who are working hard to minimise their environmental impact and we would like to share details of all the hard work which is going on with the wider industry and boaters.
