The 109th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) was held on the 2-6 December 2024. British Marine members were represented through ICOMIA (The International Council of Marine Industry Associations).
The main items of interest from this meeting were the following:
- The SOLAS revisions on pilot transfer arrangements and revision of MSC.1/Circ.1428 have been approved
- The further development of regulatory framework for ships using alternative fuels and new technologies continues and amendments were made to the International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code)
- The continued revision of the non-mandatory Code to regulate Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS)
- Clarification on carriage requirements for MF/HF radio equipment in sea area A3 in the context of GMDSS requirements of SOLAS Chapter IV (Radiocommunications).
