On 16 October, British Marine was invited to attend the CTS24 Motorsport Engineering & Technology Show at Silverstone to promote the “Motorsport to Marine” collaboration between British Marine and the Motorsports Industry Association (MIA).
Following on from the successful MIA visit to the Southampton International Boat Show in September, Ross Wombwell, Project lead for the British Marine Decarbonisation Project presented a conference session focused on Motorsport to Marine at the CTS events’ “Speakers Corner”. Presenting alongside Adam Huckstep, the CEO of Hypermotive (the technology development and manufacturing company who recently unveiled their marine hydrogen fuel cell system created in partnership with Honda Marine), the briefing session on the marine industry and its decarbonisation pathway was followed by a case study of Hypermotive’s engagement with marine companies, RS, Barrus, HPI and Honda. It was designed to raise awareness of the opportunities for collaboration in the marine sector, identifying those areas of expertise that the motorsports industry can bring to marine and the success of the opportunities the two membership organisations have been generating through the collaboration.
Following the conference session, discussions were also held with Cosworth and Prodrive engineering groups, who both highlighted their past marine projects, including supporting SailGP and the recent America's Cup teams. Each reiterated their interest in supporting decarbonisation of the marine industry through collaboration with marine manufacturers and designers.
