August Race Recipients of International Environmental Award
31 October 2024

Earlier this month marine maintenance product manufacturer August Race was awarded a prestigious Global Good Award in recognition of its sustainability gains for its campaign titled ‘Turning the Tide on Marine Plastics’.

Winners of the 2024 Global Good Awards were announced at a prestigious ceremony held in BMA house in Central London where organisations and leaders who are at the forefront of decarbonisation within their industries are recognised. Awards organiser Karen Sutton explains the GGAs acknowledge companies “achieving practical real-world impact for people and planet that is both scalable and replicable – and who have inspiring stories to tell”. The awards mark their 10th anniversary this year and in 2018 The Global Good Awards were the first awards scheme in the world to be accredited ‘Outstanding’ by The Awards Trust Mark and have retained it every year since.

Previous winners of a Global Good Award include Polestar, M&S, Microsoft and The Crown Estate, and this year’s Bronze Award for the category of Waste Reduction and Minimisation was shared between August Race and an initiative run by The National Theatre in London.

August Race was announced as a finalist in June in part due to demonstrating hitting its sustainability target of reducing manufacturing plastic waste by over 80% through adapting its production processes. Sarah Wallbank CEO said: ‘We do not claim to be an eco brand at August Race – but we do set ourselves ambitious targets to reduce our impact as a manufacturer and drive initiatives such as off-setting our plastic consumption by partnering with companies like CleanHub, and we are absolutely thrilled to be the recipients of a Global Good Award award in recognition of this”.

The Global Good Award also rewards social enterprises, such as the renewable company DTEK, and its fight to keep over 5 million premises such as hospitals and homes lit during the conflict in Ukraine. “It was incredibly inspiring to be in the room with leaders from so many truly noble campaigns alongside fellow corporations delivering on minimising their impact and maximising on their best practice initiatives” continues Sarah Wallbank. “This year we were the only marine company to be shortlisted and we were proud to represent the industry with our simple and transparent ethos.
