BCF Protect Collect and Dispose Antifouling Initiative
30 May 2024

There has been a long tradition for boat owners to paint their own vessels, and in today’s health and safety conscious society, it is important to know that antifouling (AF) paints are being used properly, with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The BCF's Marine Coatings Group has launched the DIY Safe Antifouling Initiative with the aim to inform and educate boat owners about the hazards associated with antifouling their boats.

The British Coatings Federation (BCF), the Green Blue (a joint environment programme between the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine) and the Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) initiative 'Protect, Collect & Dispose' is focused on environmental best practice when antifouling boats.

It is also important that boat owners understand best practices for Yacht Harbours and Marinas; this should include capture and recovery of paint and antifouling products rather than allowing them into our precious waterways.

The Yacht Harbour Association is established to develop the marina industry by specifically supporting marina members of British Marine and International Members. We help boat users find good quality marinas and help marina businesses improve their services and operate to high, modern standards.
