On Wednesday 17 July 2024, members and friends of The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) gathered for the highly anticipated TYHA Coastal Networking Tour, a day marked by camaraderie, learning and exploration, all generously sponsored by Dura Composites.
The day began at Cowes Yacht Haven Marina with a warm welcome accompanied by tea, coffee, and bacon rolls. Attendees were greeted by TYHA Chairman Steve Arber, who set the tone for the day with a welcoming address. Jon White, the TYHA General Manager, then provided an overview of the day's itinerary, while Dean Fuller from the event sponsor, Dura Composites, gave an engaging introduction.
The morning continued with a detailed exploration of Cowes Yacht Haven from Daniel Jehan and his team, offering insights into its operations and facilities. This was followed by a scenic cruise up the Medina River aboard the ‘Jenny Boat’, where all 41 of the attendees enjoyed the journey to Kingston Marina.
Upon arrival at Kingston Marina, the group were warmly received by Gary Hall, who provided an informative introduction and tour of the marina’s operations. The next highlight was a visit to UKSA, where everyone was impressed by the exceptional training facilities and the wide range of courses offered.
A delightful lunch at the Lifeboat Pub, located at Boatfolk East Cowes Marina, provided a welcome break and a chance for attendees to network and relax. Following lunch, the group toured the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Manufacturing Facility, gaining fascinating insights into the construction and renovation of RNLI lifeboats.
Exploration continued at Boatfolk East Cowes Marina, where Mike Townsend shared details about the marina and its facilities. The final stop of the tour was a heartfelt talk from Jade and Christian of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, an inspiring charity that helps children with or recovering from cancer experience the joys of sailing. This uplifting talk provided a wonderful end to the day’s tours.
Reflecting on the event, Jon White, TYHA General Manager commented, "The TYHA Coastal Networking Tour was an exceptional opportunity for our members to connect and learn from each other. The support from our sponsors, Dura Composites, and the warm hospitality from the marinas and organisations we visited made it an unforgettable day. The day concluded with a return journey on the Jenny Boat to Cowes Yacht Haven, where a fantastic networking BBQ awaited.
