The British Marine Professional Services Association invites you to a wonderful day this 4th July, for a sponsored walk along the fantastic Lymington coast. Not only will you be raising funds for a charity that does amazing work in our industry, but you will be helping to protect our treasured coastline and enhancing your knowledge of marine conservation.
We are supporting the Andrew Simpson Foundation whose mission is to transform lives through sailing. Andrew Simpson MBE died too early at the age of 36, in an accident on board the Artemis AC72 yacht in San Francisco Bay. Andrew, better known as ‘Bart’ to many in the sailing world, was a fine, accomplished sailor, a loving family man and an inspiration to many. Sailing was his passion as well as his profession. Today, the Andrew Simpson Foundation honours his memory by opening up the world of sailing and watersports to people, particularly young people, from all walks of life, changing lives, creating career pathways and providing opportunities that last a lifetime. We couldn't think of a better cause to support and if every walker raises just £150, this would equate to over £10,000 for the charity!
We are delighted to be teaming up with UOCEAN who advocate for environmental issues through community engagement, PR campaigns and actively involving ethnic minority and underrepresented communities, empowering them to engage in conservation to protect the future of our oceans. They are a non-profit charity based in the United Kingdom who's primary mission is to combat canal, river and ocean plastics and restore marine ecosystems partnering with minority and stigmatised communities. We will all benefit from their knowledge and insight into conservation throughout the day, and clear any litter we find on our way!
The event will finish at Lymington Yacht Haven where we will celebrate together, enjoying a drink or three, networking and strengthening connections with newly made friends and acquaintances from across the marine industry. A food truck will also be on hand to feed those well built appetites!
Arrival on the day will be from 10:30am (for wave 1, wave 2 at 11:30am) at Lymington Yacht Haven. From here, starting at 11:00am (wave 2 at 12:00noon), we will head by public bus to Barton-on-Sea (you could also join us here if you prefer). We will then meander along the well sign posted coastal path back to Lymington Yacht Haven, an approximate 16 kms of fairly flat and easy going paths with wonderful scenery and views.
The walk should take between 3 and 4 hours as everyone completes it at their own comfortable pace. There will be safety marshalls, first aid and water filling stations along the route.
Arriving back at Lymington Yacht Haven mid afternoon, we have secured an area of the Haven Bar and Restaurant until 6pm, at which point participants are free to head home, or continue the party in the many great bars in Lymington!
Registration costs just £15 and all participants will receive a goodie bag of items from our sponsors including a food and drinks voucher to enjoy at the end of day celebrations. Upon signing up, you will receive an email containing a welcome pack which includes guidance on fundraising via Just Giving, a full agenda for the event, transportation options, hotel suggestions, car parking guidance, a suggested kit list, along with more information about our charity and conservation partners. Your wave number will be confirmed closer to the day.
All money raised during the event will of course go to the Andrew Simpson Foundation.
Places are limited to just 70, so don't delay and secure your spot today! The British Marine Professional Services Association committee look forward to seeing you on what promises to be a fun filled, do good, feel good, summer's day!
