Recreational Craft Directive (RCD)
The Recreational Craft Directive is a trade-enabling European New Approach Directive which sets minimum requirements of a boat which guarantee its suitability for sale and use within the European Union and EEA.
On 28th December 2013, the EU Commission published the new RCD (2013/53/EU) which will replace the current legislation for the CE marking of boats from the 18th of January 2017.
Compliance with the Essential Requirements can be shown in a number of ways, depending on the design category and size of boat.
British Marine has published several guides and handbooks for the RCD and we also provide an RCD Awareness Course which is available to both members and non-members.
There are a number of additional supporting documents published by the Notified Bodies’ Recreational Craft Sectoral Group (RSG) and the European Commission (EC).
