British Marine publish Technical Report 124

The Technical Report 124 contains updates on all regulatory changes over the last quarter. In this edition, there is a new Industry Code of Best Practise for water supply in marinas and boatyards, a raft of updated Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) documents for commercial vessel operations and an update of the transition of the new non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) regulation for inland passenger vessels.

British Marine member, Church Minshull Aqueduct Marina, has won the Ambassador Business of the Year award at the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry annual business awards. Ten South Cheshire companies came away as winners on Saturday 23 November at Crewe Hall Hotel.

The Large Yacht Refit Market Report 2018/19

This week, ICOMIA published its second annual report on the large yacht refit market. The data is sourced from a survey of ICOMIA Superyacht Refit Group (ISYRG) members and supported by Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. ISYRG represents approximately 40% of global refit projects, consisting of 12 shipyards. All ICOMIA shipyards adhere to a code of practice which ensures the highest quality of refit and repairs.

A new Chairman of the Global Marina Institute (GMI) has recently been appointed during the annual meeting of GMI held last week at METSTRADE. GMI is responsible for the oversight of marina education, training and certification of marina personnel administered globally through British Marine and Marina Industries Association (MIA).

New HSE Standards for Welding

Following a safety alert from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in February 2019 regarding the hazards of welding fume exposure, it has now been confirmed that exposure to mild steel welding fumes can cause lung and possibly kidney cancer.
