Broads Authority vote in British Marine Quality Accredited Boatyard Scheme as mandatory licensing

Following the release of the MAIB’s report last week investigating the tragic fatality onboard hire boat ‘Diamond Emblem 1’ on the Broads in August 2020, recommendations were made to make the British Marine/ VisitEngland Quality Accredited Boatyard (QAB) Scheme a requirement of the Broads Authority’s Hire Boat and Hire Operators licensing provisions.

MCA provisionally appointing conformity assessment bodies (CABs) to ensure current MED equipment is re-certified to UKCA mark by January 2023 deadline

Following a meeting in March where industry informed the MCA there was not enough capacity to re certify all the necessary equipment to allow market continuity for the GB marketplace, the MCA held another meeting on the 4 May and made the following announcement.
