HSE updated guidance released for fog, mist and vapour cleaning

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published guidance this week on the use of fog, mist and vapour chemicals and equipment. These treatments are being widely used by charter vessel companies as part of their procedures to ensure that the vessels are COVID-19 secure. If you are hiring an external company to do this then they should be following the correct procedures – but ensure you have all their certification, risk assessments and insurance details.

For companies undertaking fogging themselves, they must keep up to date with and follow all the latest safety standards and recommendations, including risk assessments. All staff who undertake this work must be properly trained and competent to do so. This may mean having to reassess and update company COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) procedures. The links below cover the up to date HSE information, guidance, and requirements.
