COVID-19 guidance on apprenticeship programmes for employers and training providers

Published on: 24 March 2020

Following the urgent UK Government measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has set out guidance for apprentices, employers, training providers and assessment organisations. This guidance will be kept under active review and updated regularly in line with further developments.

Centred on allowing formal breaks in apprenticeships and how to manage those breaks, the guidance includes information on alternative approaches to managing endpoint assessment. It also covers what to do if an apprentice is made redundant.

This document sets out guidance and some temporary flexibilities that are being introduced to the programme during this pandemic. It provides answers to questions related to these changes and other common questions. It should be read alongside the UK Government’s COVID-19 guidance and support for businesses.

Please contact British Marine via if you have any issues in implementing these new rules or have any further feedback as an employer or training provider.

Full details of the guidance can be found here.
