Ross Wombwell, Head of Technical at British Marine, is currently attending the TC188 ISO plenary in Toronto, Canada. TC188 is the technical committee that deals with the small craft (up to 24m in length) ISO standards that are commonly harmonised with the Recreational Craft Directive and are also frequently allowed as standards for the Workboat code (for small commercial craft operating in coastal and to sea UK waters).

The ISO plenary meetings are where the development of the standards are discussed including the progress of the standards currently being written, any standards that need reviewing and what new standards industry needs to be written. These are then monitored and voted on by the committee members.

Ross is attending in his capacity as Chair of the BSi (British Standard Institutes) shadow committee, as well as a UK expert on several of the standards. He has been representing the interests of the UK industry and feeding back comments from British Marine members on the developments of the standard.
