The HSE has this year been looking closely at the standards for all dust related risk in the workplace. It has separated respiratory protective equipment (RPE) from personal protective equipment (DPPE) and is looking at short and long-term effects from exposure to wood, GRP, carbon and silica dust and dust from sanding and fairing filler.
As British Marine is currently working with the HSE on a specific code of practise for boatbuilding, it is highly likely the HSE will visit companies building & repairing boats. All British Marine members need to make sure they are aware of dust related issues and that their training, information and RPE is up-to-date.
