Maritime Labour Convention (MLC)

Applying to vessels engaged in commercial activities, the MLC aims to provide comprehensive rights and protection at work for the world's (approx.) 1.2 million seafarers by establishing minimum working and living standards for all seafarers working on ships flying the flags of ratifying countries. British Marine was instrumental in ensuring the MCA's implementation of the MLC on vessels less than rel="noopener noreferrer" 200 GT, detailed in MGN 490 (M), was suitable for the industry, and continues to work with regulators to update and clarify interpretations.
