25 June, the Welsh Government released its Wales Tourism Business Barometer. This report benchmarks the tourism sector within Wales, providing useful information about the current Welsh tourism landscape.
The overall performance indicates that 83% of businesses have maintained or seen an increase in tourism within their sector, but there are conflicting reasons behind this. Most claim weather reasons for this but 30% argue it is due to repeat bookings made in advance to their trip, a positive indication for the marine industry regarding boat hire and boat related activities.
Furthermore, the issue of Brexit has had split reactions within the tourism sector. Although some businesses have reported less advance bookings from European visitors and difficulty in staffing, many remain optimistic, with a good half term early this year 31% feeling very confident and 56% feeling fairly confident in the summer ahead for the attractions and activity operators sector.
