The British Marine Trades Association presented their annual awards, showcasing the best of the UK marine industry, at a sell-out gala dinner on
Tuesday 10 January 2017. The prestigious Lifetime Achievement award was given to Gary Sutcliffe of Lee Sanitation, the leading supplier of marine sanitation equipment and marina pump out systems. Gary, who played an active part in British Marine, retired in 2016 having been Operations Director at Lee Sanitation for over 17 years.

Another successful SYUK Technical Seminar at the London Boat Show 2017

Superyacht UK (SYUK) once again hosted their annual Technical Seminar on 12 January 2017 at the London Boat show. It is now well established in the superyacht calendar, attracting delegates from all over the world. This year’s event received over 120 attendees from all different areas of the industry. The Seminar is well known for updating the industry on the latest technical issues affecting the sector and this year was no different with speakers from Class, Flag, training, industry and the key note speaker Katy Ware, Director of Safety & Standards for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MC) and the UK’s permanent representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) 2013/53/EU

The new Recreational Craft Directive (RCD), has now become the only RCD applicable. Prior to this, both Directives were available to boatbuilders, engine and component manufacturers, but since 18 January all of these groups will have to conform to the new RCD 2013/53/EU where in scope.

Yesterday (Thursday 12 January 2017) The Yacht Harbour Association (THYA), a group association within membership organisation British Marine, announced the winners of its prestigious Marina of the Year Awards, with proud sponsors GJW. Now in its fourth year, the Awards, sponsored by GJW, recognise the best of over 160 Gold Anchor accredited marinas from round the world. The winning marinas are voted for by their berth holders in the UK Coastal, UK Inland, International and Superyacht categories.

The next generation of yacht designers are once again affirmed by Superyacht UK

Christopher Karam, a student from Staffordshire University, scooped the top prize yesterday (Thursday 12 January 2017) in the Superyacht UK Young Designer Competition 2017, in partnership with Southampton Solent University. Held at the London Boat Show, the presentation was made by Tracey Crouch MP, Minister for Sport, Tourism and Heritage.
