The British Marine Inland Boating, Midlands and Tourism Conference 2019
The joint British Marine Inland Boating, Midlands and Tourism Conference was held on the 7th November 2019. This year’s Conference was sponsored by Black Prince Holidays, GJW Direct, Hoseasons, Savills and Shawbrook Bank.
Russell Chase Chairman of British Marine Inland Boating opened the Conference by welcoming speakers and special guests including Lesley Robinson, British Marine, CEO. The British Marine Inland Boating AGM followed, with Nigel Hamilton (H&H Consulting and Training Services) voted in as Chairman and Paula Syred (Fox Narrowboats) re-elected as Vice Chair.
The Conference saw presentations on a range of topics including British Marine’s participation work and The Canal and River Trust’s Wellbeing Strategy and how it fits in with boating, plus effective leadership skills.
Brian Clarke, Head of Public Affairs, Policy and Research at British Marine gave an update on the latest industry issues and technical updates, including the Government’s focus on clean air emissions and a call for evidence on air pollutant emissions on Domestic Vessels and Inland Waterways. Lesley Robinson, British Marine, CEO, gave an update on British Marine’s National Agenda and the Spring and Autumn Expos in 2020.
The afternoon continued with two workshops one based on The Green Blue, delivered by James Scott-Anderson, British Marine Environment and Health and Safety Executive, and the other workshop with Vail Williams on commercial property leases, estate management best practice and the impact of effective estate management on property values.
The Conference concluded with a networking reception, presentations and three course meal with a casino experience. Dates for next years conference will be released in 2020.
